The Song was always there.Animals come and go. The constant passing hunt. I've had just enough meals of them to stay alive, I'm far from a glutton. I lived solely on pork for a while. I had one taste of cuttlefish and was so sure that I'd die without it becoming a staple. I had a few opportunities to swim with dolphins while fishing and to feel the thrill of chasing deer through the woods. I even saw a zebra once that let me stroke her face, but I could not bear to push that further for some reason, and she galloped off when she noticed another of a more equine persuasion than myself in a nearby field. All this while, I heard birds singing. Well, I though it was plura
Dead Light12-28-11The stars we see every night are not the stars as they stand. The image has to travel across the abyss of space, billions and billions, trillions even, of miles. When light's speed is factored into the equation, one can understand that the light interpreted as stars may not even be there anymore. Once, I was sure the stars were all there, around me and shining. I had favorite constellations, all of my own creation. Bright spots, caught my eye and held them tightly, all of them casting the illusion that the light was there and the light was real. I had no idea that with all this light around me there was the threat of it ending
The Cuttlefish Behind the WallWhat was I doing in Space? Not just regular outer-space, but this place, Space, where they had sent men into the atmosphere in years past. Where those very men send their kids to play astronaut for the Summer. Where the buildings are pink and blue, and your nostrils sting from salt-and-fallout-laden winds.I walk to the shore, where I was called, and sat down on a bed on the beach. Soon enough, a pretty cephalopod crawled up and sat next to me.Not too close, mind you. There were at least two salmon-lengths between us.She was one I'd seen before. The history suggested this would be a disaster, but I've been more headstrong about more certain

FacsimileJD Lovecraft 122112We were so excited. It was the most monumental scientific achievement of our time. We could now travel between any two points in the known universe instantly, all thanks to our new friends. Today, we were to be the first humans to be converted into digital format and shot across the stars. We walked into the individual transporters all around the world, so eager, our eyes so full of hope. We were going to see what lies beyond the arms of the Milky Way.A computerized voice with our friends' accent blared "Brain scan complete. DNA scan complete. Transmission initiated."We should have known."Transmission
